Precise frequency measurements of atomic transitions using a Rb-stabilized resonator

چکیده
We demonstrate a technique for frequency measurements of atomic transitions with a precision of 30 kHz. The frequency is measured using a ring-cavity resonator whose length is calibrated against a reference laser locked to the D2 line of Rb, the frequency of which is known to 10 kHz. We have used this to measure the hyperfine structure in the 5P3/2 state of Rb. We obtain precise values for the hyperfine constants A = 25.041(6) MHz and B = 26.013(25) MHz, and a value of 77.992(20) MHz for the isotope shift in the D2 line. c © 2008 Optical Society of America

Precise fine-structure and hyperfine-structure measurements in Rb
We demonstrate a new technique for measuring the absolute frequencies of atomic transitions. The technique uses a ring-cavity resonator whose length is calibrated using a reference laser locked to the D2 line in Rb. The frequency of this line is known to be 384 230 484.468(10) MHz. Using a second laser locked to the D1 line of Rb, we measure the frequencies of various hyperfine transitions in t...

– We demonstrate a technique for frequency measurements of UV transitions with sub-MHz precision. The frequency is measured using a ring-cavity resonator whose length is calibrated against a reference laser locked to the D2 line of Rb. We have used this to measure the 398.8 nm 1S0 ↔ P 1 line of atomic Yb. We report isotope shifts of all the seven stable isotopes, including the rarest isotope Yb...
متن کاملFrequency locking of tunable diode lasers to a stabilized ring-cavity resonator
We demonstrate a technique for locking the frequency of a tunable diode laser to a ring-cavity resonator. The resonator is stabilized to a diode laser which is in turn locked to an atomic transition, thus giving it absolute frequency calibration. The ring-cavity design has the principal advantage that there is no feedback destabilization of the laser. The cavity has a free-spectral range of 1.3...
متن کاملPreparation of Reduced-Quantum-Uncertainty Input States for an Atomic Clock
Atomic clocks have reached the Standard Quantum Limit (SQL) of precision, set by the projection noise inherent in measurements on uncorrelated atoms. It is possible to overcome this limit by entangling the atoms to generate a “squeezed state” of the atomic ensemble. We use the collective interaction of an atomic ensemble with a far-detuned light field in an optical resonator to prepare squeezed...
